Why do we put ourselves out there in the online dating world

I have found online dating to be full of shallow judgemental people. Regardless of what you say in your profile they are going to judge you by your photo.

So what? Then don't put a photo? Then you really won't hear from anyone.

I've joined sites like yahoo personals, true.com, plentyoffish, senior friend finder, friend finder, bbwpersonalsplus, bbpeoplemeet, and a couple of others. I get maybe one or two responses on these sites in maybe a month. And always from men to far to concern myself with. You read about how all the women on these sites get tons of email from guys, wich is funny because I never have. I don't think I'm ugly. I"ve met a couple of men who told me I'm not "that" big. Even had one guy point out a very large woman at the restaraunt we were at and say "Now that's a BBW!" yeah he was a creep and I won't be seeing him again, I thought that was sooooooo freaking rude!

I know my location plays a big role as I never can find men within 100 miles of me, or there aare just a small handful of them on various sites.

I can tell you, sometimes I may sound like a negative person on here, I'm not, but this online dating thing has been a real burr in my butt. I wish I wasn'at as shy as I am and could meet someone in real life not on this damned thing..

Reality is that the net is a visual medium, why say a thousand words when a picture will do? Add sound and some interactive elements and your off to the races.

As far as dating goes tho, having an a pic gives someone an idea of who they are actually talking to. It kind of completes the picture so to speak. Considering that some relationships are long distance, it's all the person on the other side has to go on.

With the profiles, it's like advertising. You have to sell yourself in a way to not only attract other people's attention but to get them to want to talk to you. The catch is that you still have to be true to yourself as well. There may come a time when the relationship could get serious. You don't want to kill a good thing just because you said you could speak greek when in actuality you couldn't...

In general, it doesn't matter if you get one hundred e-mails or only two. The point is to get the ones that matter. So be patient, this isn't a race to see who get's a date first.


On a side note: Ladies would you mind throwing in a body pic with the head shot. It would be nice to see what you look like. It's probably just me but I keep feeling like I might end up dating a head in a jar.

``To each there own. For me, I like the idea of actually knowing what a person looks like as I talk to them. Besides we are on a site that actually supports larger women, this isn't Madison Ave with it's air brushed girls, you could find that guys (and girls) here don't have the same attitudes as a TV ad exec when it comes to body image.
