` I'm not familiar with the latest Dr. Who incarnation, or what actor is even playing him now, but I did watch some of the 1970's version with Tom Baker as the Doctor. I thought the Daleks were cool every time they were on. Sort of an early version of the Borg from Star Trek. Are they in the new version? How does the TARDIS work these days? Hopefully the Doctor can still find a red call box in Britain these days since cell phones are so commonplace.

`Daleks will always be a Dr. Who staple.. you really should check out the new incarnations of Who... since the series revamp in 2005, there have been 3 Who's.. Christopher Eccleston for one season.. somewhat dark and brooding but excellent, David Tennent for 4 seasons.. hailed by many as the best Doctor ever.. Definately brings back much of the quirkiness of Tom Baker and the energy of a souped up wildcat... and currently Matt Smith... the youngest Doctor ever who has not only taken over the role and totally made it his own, but has even been fortunate enough to bring filming of Who to the United States for this current season. The ferverent nature that has kept Dr. Who alive in Great Britain for all of these years is finally getting a chance to spread to the United States and beyond with BBC American and the Sy Fy channel. and it has been a privilage for me to not only introduce friends and family to the lastest versions of Dr. Who, but the earlier incarnations as well. I would definately suggest checking it out. As for the TARDIS... same old police box.. not much has changed there, although it's like the more things stay the same the more they change... You'll just have to check it out to see what I mean.

` Thanks for the update--I will certainly check out the new Dr. Who. I don't get the Sci-Fi Channel or BBC America, so I will have to go to my local Blockbuster store and see if they have it. I remember Christopher Eccelston as the Duke of Norfolk in "Elizabeth", and he played a similar dark and brooding character. Back to Dr. Who history, when I was a kid, I remember watching Peter Cushing in "Dr. Who and the Daleks", made sometime in the 1960's. I don't know if this movie was the first appearance of the Daleks or not, but it was about 10 years before Cushing played the evil Grand Moff Tarkin in "Star Wars". I like most of those quirky old British sci-fi series, starting with the "Thunderbirds" marionette show from the 60's, "UFO" (loved those girls with the purple hair and go-go outfits saying, "You-foe approaching, twenty millions miles", in their sexy English accents) and "Space:1999" from the 70's and "Red Dwarf" from the 80's. But Dr. Who is definitely number one in longevity.

`Red Dwarf is amazing too. If you can find it on DVD, you should check out Torchwood as well. it's sort of a spin off from the new Who. it's pretty good. I know that Who goes back to the early 60's, but Tom Baker was my first Doctor. snagging episodes on late saturday night when I was a kid along with the occasional episode of Red Dwarf. I was thrilled when not only did Netflix get the full series of Red Dwarf, but they have it on instant view as well. Feel another Dwarf marathon coming on soon... . Hopefully blockbuster will have them for you. I know all the new Who is on DVD.. netflix has them instant view too.

`My chintzy local Blockbuster didn't have any Dr. Who--the clerk thought I meant Dr. Dolittle! Or Torchwood or Red Dwarf, Blake's 7, or anything. I would use Netflix, but that requires a credit card, which I don't use. So I will check the public library, or used video/book stores. Meanwhile, I will have to be satisfied with my VHS copies of "Star Trek" and "Lost in Space". :D

`I am INCREDIBLY excited for this Saturday's premier! =D I've missed the Doctor this summer.
My ex boyfriend actually got me into Doctor Who last year and I've just been completely obsessed ever since.
But I haven't seen the earlier episodes. I've seen all the episodes since the reboot, but before 2005, I haven't seen any of it. Though I have looked it up and gotten kind of up to speed.
I've been looking for the older episodes online and on Netflix. But there's only a few earlier episodes on Netflix unforntunately. So if anyone knows where I can find them online or anywhere that would be awesome =D

` I went looking at Borders (which is unfortunately going out of business soon), but no Dr. Who, old or new there. If you have a Barnes and Noble or Hastings nearby, you might try that. Amazon.com would be another possibility.

`Rory is awesome! Gotta love someone who will call out the Doctor. Though it does have to be said that the Doctor isn't meant to be nice.
As for River, I think we need more of her story. We have the early bit and some late stuff, but not the bits in between to make enough sense of her.
