So, I have had private (yahoo messenger, etc.) with some members and am afraid that they might be scammers. I have done some searches on the names they gave me and even addresses. and I am not finding who they say they are. now, I am leery all the time. which really sucks to have to be that way. any hint or tips to keep from scammers getting you? does anyone know scammers that are on here?

`It's probably not going to be easy to spot a scammer straight away.
There is a video on somewhere about dating scams which might be worth a look?
I suppose what I would say is be wary if they bring up the subject of money, obviously, and anyone with a sob story (wait for the punchline, it's usually money).
Also people who live so far away that you are never likely to meet. Why are they writing to you?
If they seem to ask a lot of specific questions about you, but don't appear to give you too many answers or give very vague ones, that might ring some alarm bells.
I probably wouldn't give out my e-mail or other contact details too early on and even then, take everything with a pinch of salt.
Just be wary until you know.

We have built a large number of systems into our network to try and prevent, or at least minimize, spamming and/or scamming.
When you leave our system, and begin to interact with people directly, you are no longer protected by the systems we have put in place...so we would recommend you stick with the internal email system (and/or chat system).
Chatting with someone in the chat room will allow you to hear their voice and even see them via webcam. It is MUCH easier to spot someone who is not telling the truth when you can see their face vs. just reading what they are telling you via text chat or email.
We have an Online Dating Safety section, and we recommend you review it.
Also, we have 'REPORT' links in every profile, every forum post, and in every internal email...so if you think anyone is a spammer or scammer, report them.
We review ALL accounts reported, and if we spot a violation of our TOS (Terms of Service), the account is deleted.
While no system is foolproof, we have built up a large number of filters and restrictions over the last 10 years to help protect our members as best as possible...but ultimately it is up to each person to protect themselves when they interact with others online.
We hope our Online Dating Safety section helps.
Thanks,
.

`so, my suspicions were correct. ---------- is a scammer. he used an uncontrolled fb profile for his pic and personal info. I sent the fb user an email and let him know. just don't understand why ppl do it.

We edited the comment above because it included a member's username, which is not allowed.
Separately, we were notified about this member this morning for the first time, and upon account review, it became obvious they were in violation of our TOS (Terms of Service)...and the account was deleted.
If anyone is ever suspicious about another member, please use the REPORT option on their profile page, or in any email they send you.
We review all reports, and if this member had been reported earlier, they would have been deleted sooner (although they had not been on the network that long).
Thanks,
.
