I'm similar to quite a few of you on this! Personally, although I have just started to lose weight, I don't think that my increase in self-esteem is really from that. Certainly it helps, because you're proud to see your hard work pay off, even in a minor way, but I think other things in life, like meeting new people and doing well in the workplace/academically and other life events are what is boosting my esteem - not just weight loss.
A person should not try and lose weight just to feel better, because (IMO) it probably just makes you more vulnerable to gain it right back if your mentality doesn't change along with your physicality. I'm losing the weight for health, but I'm not crazy enough to think I could ever be skinny - some might be able to, but I have a large frame (it's bone, so...), and I'm not about to starve myself. What it seems like, is if a person wants to lose weight, just do it for the right reasons and a boost in self esteem could just fall into place.

`The last post here was over a year ago but I wanted to 'weight' in. lol. I don't think self esteem really has anything to do with the size a person is physically. Most self esteem & self confidence is gained by inner knowledge of yourself & what makes you tick. I know that I have a LOT of work to do in that department but also know that losing a bunch of weight isn't going to make it somehow magically better. As long as I can get healthier, control my impulses to use food as a comfort source than I figure my battle is half way fought. I wish everyone here a wonderful day, a beautiful night & the knowledge that no matter what our sizes........WE ARE ALL WORTHY OF LOVE, RESPECT, & A GOOD LIFE... Whatever form that may come in for each of us.
Blessings of Friendship,
