Please post your favorite classic movies.
I guess "classic" will mean different things to different people but I'm talking about old black and white and early color era movies.
Some of my favorites........
My Man Godfrey
The Strange Love of Martha Ivers
A Night At The Opera
The Searchers
Queen Christina
Now Voyager
Mildred Pierce
Dead End
The Magnificent Ambersons
You Can't Cheat and Honest Man
The Treasure of Sierra Madre
White Heat
The Thin Man
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Who Is Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?
Clash By Night
King Kong
and I'm sure I will think of hundreds more.
What are your favorites?

`okay, maybe I'll find an answer here, I've tried IMDB without much success. There's this classic movie I saw a part of but couldn't stick around to see the whole thing and it's driving me mental!
It's black and white, and mother & daughter live on a beach...or somewhere near the sea. And there's this ghost of a sea captain I believe, and they start falling in love!
It was so sweet and I really want to see the whole thing. Can anyone tell me what it's called?
Thanks guys!
BTW, I love Pan's Labyrinth..not a classic yet, but it will be! I'm sure:P and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is an great, and heartbreaking movie/play.

`How far back can we go? I like alot of silent films
Last Laugh (Das Letzt Lachen)
Nosferoto
The Advantures of Prince Ahmed (Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed)
and the Charles Chaplin The Great Dictator
And Sheevaa I wish I could help you, I know which one you mean, the name escapes me now. I remember my mom and grandmother watching it one day. I caught the end of it too, it was nice and romantic actually (once I knew what was happening) I would guess it was something like Waitting for the Sea Captain or something. I can't comfirm it on IMDB

`omgosh the classics huh well I liked alfred hitchc---- "the birds" and"rearview window".I loved"old yeller" and "the wizard of oz" and "davy crockett".I liked "the ten commandments" and "ben hur" and "king kong".The series(way to shortlived imo) "beauty and the beast" is one of my fav. series. It was from the 80's(t.v) and "star trek" the series(the first ones)and the original "night stalker".Oh and when sally field played "sybil" with joann woodard,I thought that was a good mini-series."night of the living dead"b&w is pretty good. The original"cape fear" is a good one.Well off the top of my head that would appear to about cover it.gbu

`I my opinion, Rear Window is one of the best suspense films ever made. Watching Jimmy Stewart realize what is really going on in the apartment across the courtyard is classic.
Sheevaa, you gotta see this flick.
No blood, no guts, just pure suspense, as God intended. Thats my opinion and I'm stickin' to it. LOL
As for old movies, my favorites were many of John Waynes movies. My all time favorite of his were:
Angel and the Bad Man
The Quiet Man
The Cowboys.
And Cary Grants classic, Arsenic and Old Lace still cracks me up and I have seen it many times.

`Cookinbubbles that is so true! I love suspense, minus the gore.
There are so many oldies that are good. I remember sitting with my grandpa and watching some. He would always tell me side notes about the actors. Casablanca.. And a lot of westerns... Oh how I miss those days.
my all time fav movies are classics to me, lol... Its the breakfast club and 16 candles. . And then growing up the little rascals and little giants.
