I do think it is a personal choice of the individual/couple. I dated someone that really loved the BBW body type. I decided the that I wanted to lose the weight and live a little healthier. Apparently it was too much for him. I lost 120 lbs (still considered BBW at a size 16 miss after the weight loss). I felt much better but he dumped me as a result. Even though we got along great and we dated for more than 4 years, it boiled down to not being what he wanted anymore. I found that my personal happiness and being at peace with my body/mind after I changed was more important that trying to maintain an image important to someone else at the expense of my own happiness. Good job on losing a little weight....it isn't the easiest thing to do.

honest question: was it not possible for you to derive happiness from knowing your partner adored you just as you were?

`Your honest question begs another one.
If he loved her, what difference did it make what size she was?
If he loved truly loved her, seeing her happier and at peace with her size should have made him happier as well.

sometimes people have a preference, and can't help it. (not that they should help it.)
as much as we sometimes like to or try to delude ourselves, physical attraction is a crucial part of a relationship.
i mean, sure, we all want to see our partners happy, but we want to be happy for ourselves, as well.
if he wasn't happy with her weight loss, he can't help that.
sure he may still love the person she was, but if there's no attraction, and that was making him unhappy, he acted in his interests.
and as much as i believe in love and romance, life is too short not to act in your own interests.
