It's interesting to me how health, as a concept of physical well-being, can not only be easily confused with thinness, but can also easily be seen to be (ironically) in diametric opposition to the aesthetic appeal of large individuals.

For instance, neither health nor beauty equate to thinness, yet...being large and beautiful is not frequently healthy. And it is my natural assumption that is the common majority that is attracted to a perceived healthy mate. I don't think that there are many individuals out there who are attracted to sick or unhealthy individuals. I'm sure that there may be, and they are definitely in a minority.

Now, I am not in any way asserting that if you are larger than average, that that means that you are also wholly unhealthy or totally sick. What I am asserting is that there are known health risks that come beyond a certain threshold of weight. This can be unhealthy, right? And yet there are many attractive overweight individuals who fit this idea of a large, unhealthy, and yet attractive individual.

Is the issue of health vs aesthetic appeal something that BBWs and BHMs can take logical offense to in a relationship? Is it confusing to anyone that one can feel attracted to someone who would most likely have health defects arising from the very size of the individual that they are attracted to?

If the answer is "No" on both counts, then modern health needs a refreshing re-definition of physical health ideals.

As something to ponder, this is intriguing. Anyone?

i think that the vast majority of people in the general world, and even a fair number of people within the size-acceptance community often forget, or don't even know, that body size is NOT an indicator of health.

i would advise anyone, of any size, who believes that health is dependent on size, to read this link: (removed)

It depends a lot on the person. I'm a fat person, and have been my entire life. Up until a tear ago, I was extremely healthy. I considered myself healthier than most of the thin people I knew.

The conclusion I've come to from my readings is that the greatest measure of health is physical activity. If you're active, you're much more likely to be in a state of better health, regardless of you're weight. I also have read that thin people are much more likely to have higher percentages of visceral (the bad kind) fat, and lower percentages of adipose (the better kind). And heavier persons are much more likely to have lower percentages of visceral fat, and higher percentages of adipose fat.

The general consensus of my knowledge is to be the healthiest you can for your size.
