Hey everyone, I had a great idea some time ago that works well on some occasions: playing a simple, free, online game together that offers a chat feature. This is different than, say, getting together on WoW or some pay site, because as the games are free and usually browser-based, they are accessible to most anyone with an Internet connection.
Picture this: in real life, when you meet someone, you usually go out for a drink, or for coffee, or for a ride somewhere, or for dinner... you usually engage in some other activity together that gives you the opportunity to make conversation together. You establish a dialogue in a setting made comfortable by the slight distraction at hand.
To simulate this, and before meeting an individual in real life, I like to chat with a girl while also playing a free online game together. It's awesome for having at least some fun online together while getting to understand each other on more personal levels.
Purely email-oriented or purely-chat oriented meeting sites can not facilitate this interaction well. They are not capable of it, because the tools are not in place.
But it can be a lot of fun and very rewarding. At the very least, it introduces the individuals to something new to take part in.
One of my favorite free online games is Go. Go is the oldest recorded board game on Earth. It's fun to kill time together playing this game while also talking in the chat between moves. The server I like to play for free on is (removed).
Does anyone else have any free online board games they would like to mention? I'd love some recommendations.

`hello and it sounds like a great idea if the game is slow enough.
No I am not interested in playing games with you in the dating sense since I am old enough to be your mother(LOL) but I would like to be your friend.
I love computer word games and some puzzle games and will have to check out the one you listed called Go because I have never heard of it.
I will definitely check that out and I hope some sweet young thing takes you up on the game thing. It does sound like an excellent way to get to know someone.

But although you mentioned the online games you liked to play, you failed to include their names or links to where they can be played. Do you have any specific recommendations?
For instance, in addition to the Go server I mentioned, here is where you can play Scrabble online for free with others:
www.isc.ro/
It's the Internet Scrabble Club! Woo hoo! A wonderful place to talk and chat while exercising your spelling muscles. Excitement and fun for the whole family!

`I play on Yahoo and sometimes on POGO but POGO is so busy.
I play games like Scrabble, Word Whomp, Bookworm, and some kind of Boggle clone thing which I cannot remember the name. I also play some of the games on Facebook.
I use them to relax after work and prefer to be alone when I play. Word Whomp is speed spelling, sort of. Bookworm doesn't involve speed but I generally have a grand kid or 2 hanging over my shoulder and trying to "help" me. LOL

I meant two-player games that you can play together with another person that involves a chat feature to use to get to each other. You can't do that in a single-player game.
Any recommendations?
In addition to (removed) and (removed), both of which have two-player gaming with chat features, there is another I like to play: Chess! And I like to play this on the Free Internet Chess Server, or FICS for short.
You can play free, internet-based, two-player, chat-featured games together with another person you would like to get to know... here:

`Cookinbubbles you are right Pogo is busy and sometimes hard to get on a game like bookworm or bejeweled 2. I play my games alone as well I'm not into competitions but I use to have a Sunday night group that one of my long lost friends had on yahoo in the game Pyramid. She had set up a group that would chat and play the game in tournament fashion. I have been able to locate her nor her group since March when I lost my DSL h--k-p to a storm. Ricofederico, people here would probably more then likely enjoy those games you mentioned and I'm quit sure they might even go for the idea of a game night where we all could just meet at a specified time and begin a chat session while playing a set game or two. but what you are suggesting would have to be monitored so only member of this group participated and no out side junks were allowed then they may go for it. not every one on here is an extrovert and not everyone is an introvert we have some who are middle ground people that like chatting openly but for those who are introvert it might not appeal if they're going to be hassled right off.
but to anser your question stright off; I love card games and puzzles but not fast past games like RPG's I use to love Othello (or Reversi to some), Till I taught and 8yo girl to whip my --- then I moved on. of course she's a grown 6'2" volleyball playing lady now and a professional message therapist. she can still whip my --- on Othello. dang can catch a break no way.lol
