Posted: Post subject: why does it seem most of the posters here are pretty young? |
|
|
Been visiting this forum for a while and actually posting for about a month and I feel like everyones mom or grandma!
I have checked out other posters profiles and many are very young and only a few come anywhere near my own age.
I am 56 by the way and soon to be 57.
Are forums and posting on here considered more for the young or does it just end up that way?
Very curious about this and just on a side note and judging from all the past posts I have read: bet anyone who answers this is a young person.

I recently atarted posting as well, I figure it'll be a better way to out myseld out there especially since not a lot of people post. haha maybe I'll catch someone's eye who was just looking at the forum

`it may be a coinicidence, I mean it seems like not a lot of people are active on this site. I mean I am fairly young just 24 and I mean everyone I know does go to forums alot and have their favorite ones. but I know I just come here to talk and like to post in the forums too.

`You might just be psychic cookinbubbles. Lol.
I'm sure more of the younger people are just more familiar with forums. Or it could be that the people that don't post are just afraid to write on here.
When I first signed up I was apprehensive about the forum. But I'm glad I posted on here and introduced myself. Only way to meet interesting people.

`cookinbubbles I am 46 so we are not that far apart in age.As for others our age, well truthfully speaking I think they are looking for something other then communication on a verbal level but I could be wrong. The other thing is that they simply can't read well or write well, take ur pick lol.

`by other way around, do you mean that the young ones are looking for something other than verbal communication? if so, I sort of thought so too. I guess I figured older men would also be looking for more.
In my mind, I want to meet a man verbally and then go one from there. My marriage started out the other way around. My late husband and I had a huge physical attraction but that only went so far. he was poorly educated and while I never went to college, I always was reading and teaching myself new things. still am. he did not. He was sort of stuck and we really struggled sometimes to find equal footing. While I was totally in love with him it was much more physical than mental and I had to work at not growing apart from him. Now that he is gone from this earth, I am a different person, totally interested in much different things than when we were to gether.
I do not want to settle again. I want an equal and I want to be equal to whom ever I meet. So....i tend to go for conversation first. I figure if a guy can't hold an intelligent conversation....No mater how cute, how rich, its not going to happen again. I won't settle.
Now that I am done writing all that, it sounds kind of pretentious. I don't know, I just want more than what I lost.

`I dunno about that, it seems like there are 5 of us. 3 out of the are under 30. And 2 of us are over. Majority seems to be with us younger people.

`And the funniest part about the age range of posters is after a while we will feel like family anyway because it seems to be the same few of us that participate. wonder why?
I love this whole idea of talking to different people in this manner. We exchange sillyness(the alphabet band and singer game) and personal thoughts and ideas, allwith no stress, no pressure. i would have thought this would be ideal to get to know many people, not just we loyal few. LOL

`Personally, I like where there's a variety of ages in a smallish forum like this. Like the other day when 10 of us youngin's had no clue what that movie was, cookinbubbles? lol, I probably never would have found that without you!
I would never discount experience from an older person, nor ignore the new perspective of my younger friends. It's actually kind of neat being sort of middle-ish right now:)

`yes I agree to a point about small groups(cliques) but I do want to say that forums such as this should be treated as a welcomed place for all others to voice their opinion.Sometimes I have seen someone try to join a room(not on this site) and someone in that room doesn't like that person and they start attacking this persons character,it is really bad if it is an admin doing it). Then everything that person types after that is attacked by others in the room as well.It is just as bad when someone types something in a room and is ignored because imo no one deserves to be ignored. This is cyber-bullying and it knows no age range apparently. That is just plain wrong and it does leave an imprint. Some folks get into these forums because they couldn't and wouldn't fit in trying to jump start a conversation or even join in on one already in progress in the outside world and therefore treat these forums as their own way of striking back at society for not including them. Then you have those that are still trying to win a popularity context apparently by trying to cater to everyone. You know the politician wannabes lol.Fence sitters is what I heard someone say, they blow any kind of way.I understand how everyone needs to have a place they can call their own and I understand how people float into groups but no one is immuned to pain be it verbal or physical and it would do us all a great service to keep that in mind especially around the holidays.

`I don't think that will really be a problem here, SF. Take you and I for an example. We get along pretty well, we've also respectfully disagreed with each other and gone with another person's view on the forum.
We're all already in a minority, lol, we can't afford cliques Seriously, though. This is one of the nicest forums I've been too.
