Tattoos and Piercings - HOT or NOT? Body Art or Trashy?

I currently have a large forearm tattoo and a nose hoop piercing, as well as three piercings on each ear. I only have one tattoo, but that is not the end to my ink.

I recently had a rather religious person badly judge me for my, apparently delinquent, image. And it really shocked me how some people, and many people, disrespect what I consider BODY ART. (Yes, in capitals because that's what I truly believe it is).

So, I'll just open this out there:
Do people, guys and girls both, find tattoos and piercings attractive?
AND/OR do people honestly stick bad labels on those who carry tattoos and piercings?

I think most guys like tattoos on girls, except for a few really an*l types but, you probably wouldn't like them anyway so it works out just fine. I personally don't care either way. The only piercing I like is the septum.

`See i think its all personal preference. me personally love guys with tattoos and piercings... i think its kinda hot, now on girls i think there pretty and yea iv'e been contemplating getting one for some time now but i def don't look down on those who have them. but girl if you like them then you shouldn't care about what others think . :)

`I've recently got into a discussion with a guy who considered tattoos to lower a persons worth....we aren't an object that loses value. I think that the main problem people having is understanding that what others do with their bodies is none of anyones business.

` Someone else asked this question a while back, in the case of piercings, at least. Like I replied to that, I don't mind piercings or tattoos as long as they aren't outrageous-looking, like a 6-inch-diameter nose ring or sinister-looking tattoos with satanic symbols, or something. `@ ibrake4fatchix : That's a very good point. I don't have any interest in men who frown upon tattoos or piercings. I would never date someone who didn't appreciate my body art. It's not something I worry about, but I just never realized how many people really do judge.

@ blueeyeashley : I wasn't really insecure about my tat until that recent encounter. I carry my art proudly - and I think anyone with a tattoo or piercing should do the same. I think if you want to get one, you should go for it! Just make sure it's something you want on your body for your whole life. (:

@ sarahwordy : People like that make me a little more dissapointed in society. Haha. To try and understand how a tattoo or piercing lowers someone's worth is... amazing. And not in a good way. It blows my mind how some people perceive those who are different from them (and only skin-wise!).

@ ssbbwloverinnv : Yeah, I read that discussion after I posted mine. Despite everything, I still get the feeling that most people automatically paint an evil or satanic image on people who have piercings or tattoos especially. Not all tattoos are flowers and butterflies and reflect happy rainbow moments. Most people with tattoos I've encountered reflect harsh moments in life that have been overcome or mean a lot.

`I think tattoos and piercings are super hot. Nobody has ever (openly)judged me for mine, though. People generally compliment them or don't say anything at all. In fact, more people have made negative comments about when I dye my hair than when I get new ink. I only have two tattoos, though. And two facial piercings. So i'm not completely overdone(yet!).

But don't stress other people's opinions. If they don't like tattoos or piercings, they don't have to get them. :]

Overall, if someone can't appreciate your expression of creativity and individuality, it's probably not worth it to try and have a relationship with them anyway.

I hope people don't find them trashy. I have a tattoo of a teal and purple butterfly behind my right ear, and I love it. Just like we don't wanna be judged for being a bit bigger, I don't wanna get judged for having a tattoo. Tattoos are a way of expressing yourself, and some people just happen to express themselves more than others!

`I have a decent sized tattoo on my upper left arm, and have dated a guy that did like tattoos and a guy that didn't like tattoos. Most people who meet me wouldn't even guess I had one because my sleeve tends to cover it and I don't really talk about it too much. Not because I don't like it, I love my tattoo, my tattoo just isn't all of what I'm about. I designed and got my tat as a personal symbol of where I've been and where I'm going, so I don't really care who sees it or likes it aside from me.

As I said, I've dated a guy that liked tattoos and a guy that didn't. The guy that didn't like tattoos was cool enough to see through that and get to know and like me as a person. I have met people that just won't go beyond hello if they know you have a tattoo though, and I think its sad to see. People are more than their tattoos, and it's just like a big girl like me being more than her weight. Some people refuse to see through that. I get that people have their preferences in terms of attraction, but to judge a person for who they are based off of what is on the outside, is sad.

Anyway..just my two cents and a little bit of a rant. =P

`For me tatts are a complete turn on, especially half sleeves ... piercing on the other hand I don't mind them, but I do not like the ones that stretches your lobe... I won't criticise the person but I personally don't find them attractive (that type) ... Other piercing doesn't bother me .. but would preferred nothing extreme
