How much does a person's looks play in your decision whether or not to date them? Could you go past their looks if their personality was really good or if the chemistry was what you wished?

`Hello Midnightrider55---that is a very interesting point you bring up. Some people are very visual and need beauty or some specific physical trait to stir any interest in a possible partner. I think visual/physical attraction is ok, but in my own small opinion it is the most fickle of attractions. Spend long periods of time with someone and you will see them change right before your eyes --Or--be apart from someone for awhile and the changes will be almost sudden somtimes. Now this is not true in every case but if visual/physical is a person's stimulation it is likely to change---then what? If the two never deepend their attraction to a substance/character level the romance will fade or sour.

I believe everyone has beauty. Some have surface beauty--easy to locate and others have what I call treasure beauty--you have to dig a little deeper to get to it but it's there.

I just hope that if anyone for whatever reason would ever find me attractive enough to catch their Eye ,I pray something in my spirit will capture their Heart.

Whew, thanks for making me think MidnightRider55...

I could get past looks, if it was such a close match in the personality. Thou looks are important at the beginning for me to want to get to know them but if they want to talk to me then it doesm't matter.

Look i have a signiture

`Lets be honest though, looks are the first thing that attracts you to a person. It's definitely not the only thing but when you're looking for a 'match' you're finding someone that physically attracts you and move on from there. There has to be something about the person that triggers you to even speak to them to find out if you are compatable on other levels.

If it's a friend or someone you know well, you can definitely develop other feelings based on chemistry etc. and begin to look at them in a different light..

`I'm not really sure how to answer this one. I know that, for me, it is the way the person makes me feel about myself and the chemistry that matters. I've had relationships where as a couple we didn't rate the same according to what is attractive presently, but it was the fact that we made each other happy that decided the relationship and not the other. Beauty fades, it's who you are that counts ;)

`We all have our preferences and things that turn us on. However, I think a lot of that can become a lot less important if there's a lot of chemistry there, or your personalities just click.

`I find this somewhat amusing.I mean you have lonelyguy up there saying how looks are important to him to get his attention but I have to wonder is that one of the reasons for his loneliness?I mean comeon now who are we kidding about this so called standard crap? How can someone not care how their friend looks but draws the line in the looks department when it comes to dating?I thought the best relationships were based in friendship so are the folks saying these things actually hoping and praying for arm candy and dreaming of getting it on with pamela or the rock? How can the bar be so high for all others yet rest on the floor when it comes to onesself?Just a reality check.

`Looks.... You hear all these stories of when we met in person he didn't look anything like the picture. So let's be real, unless you meet the person outside of this cube some people call their lives, you have no guaranty of what you might get appearance wise, if that's how shallow you are. Online dating sometimes requires you to have something in common, or feel a certain way about someone to take the time and meet them. And I agree with southernfinery, relationships are based on friendship. And when I responded to people it was because they said something that caught my eye, made me laugh, or made me think. Because you can be the hottest man alive and have the brain of a pea, and at the same time be the intellegent, handsome man and not even give me a second glance. And not to be rude or mean, but there are so many couples out there that might have the handsome man, and a girl that you say, what was he thinking. Obviously he found something valuable in that person. *sigh* just my thoughts. Lol

`Looks are not the most important thing in a relationship...but seriously...We would all be liars if we said that it didn't matter a lot. When i kiss you, or lie in bed next to you, I want to be attracted to you. And yes being perfectly matched in other areas is great, and can actually make u see a person differently...makingthem hotter. but I won't lie and say I overlook looks. I will not be married to a beast...and my children need to be attractive, and the family christmas card should not be confusedfor a late halloween card.

THIS. i couldn't have said it better myself.

i think it's physical attraction that makes you interested in someone.
but it's that extra something - a good personality, a strong heart, a warm soul - it's the stuff you can't see that KEEPS you interested.
