Of course being healthier and feeling good make us happy, but I've been observing people with really serious body issues and they don't seem happy at all when they lose weight.
I think that if you have a severely negative outlook on your person then it doesn't matter what weight you are you will still feel bad.
Thoughts?

I agree with you, I mean we have to learn to love the bodies we are in. The problem isn't the body size but one's mental image of themselves.

I most definitely love the body I'm in. It's mine to live with and I made a choice a long time ago that I can either love it and be happy or loathe it and be mopey forever. lol Do you love yours?

`On a serious note, I think some of the body image can be affected by who you are with.
I am more bothered by my body now than when my husband was alive. He loved me, big or small, it didn't matter to him. At my largest he was just as frisky and crazy h---- as he was at my smallest and believe me there was a huge difference in between. His loving me had nothing to do with my body size at all. Sigh.
That's the kind of love that will be hard to replace.

losing weight shouldn't boost or diminish self-esteem.
most people put too much worth on the numbers on the scale.
instead of working towards a specific weight, we should work on improving our minds and hearts. by doing this, we can learn, grow, and gain confidence.
and, you will come to find, good people care more about confidence than looks :)

`Cookin, that post made me jealous. He sounds like he was a great man. I think if I were to lose my weight, I would probably still have a lot of the same self-esteem issues that I have now.
I'd congratulate and condemn myself in the mirror, most likely.

`yeah, he was my soul mate from first look when I was 16 years old. Met him as a blind date, would you believe it???
Don't know if I will ever find someone who hits me like that at all ever again.
It makes me think about what ricofederico is always blabbering about, knowing you are attracted to a certain type. I was too, my ideal was someone who was tall, dark hair and of course handsome. teenage fantasies, ya know.
I met, married and truly loved a man who was an inch shorter than I, and not handsome at all. he had his own look but handsome wasn't one of them.

`I hear you cookin. Honestly, then men who have had the most impact in my life haven't been the super attractive ones. They have been the ones that totally connect with me.
Although I do love me a tall man, I'll admit it:P

Temporarily I think yes, that losing weight can boost self-esteem in a person who is uncomfortable with being fat. I have a bit of a problem with that, though, as I believe that self-esteem should not be contingent on whether or not you fit into a societal norm, or whether or not a partner makes you feel good about yourself. I don't think constantly aspiring to be something you aren't is particularly healthy, your self-worth should be reliant on who you are, not who you want to be.
